How does one extract video game sounds from PC games?
In older games there used to be a "sounds" folder or something like it but now as games become more complex manufactures are using some sort of compression.

Does anyone have a detailed method that works for them as to how to do this?

The game I'm looking at right now is Battle for Middle Earth II.

Thanks all.

You usually need a so called "extractor", which is a small tool that can handle the sound file format of certain game. Since almost every game uses different schemes of storing its data, there's no such thing like a general approach to extracting sounds and other files from games.

Your best bet is to search google in a way such as "<game name> <file format> extractor" and the like. Chances are you may come across an extractor. If you're skilled at reverse-engineering, you may lend a helping hand to people over at
