Does it make the west wild?

Review:

The journey of Gun starts with the "Main Theme" which captures perfectly the atmosphere of the wild West and has definitely the potential of a masterpiece. It's absolutely exciting and an enjoyment listening to it. A very well opening. The follower "Dealing Brown" holds the level quite good. A traditional old West track supported by heavy drums. Someone would say it's to short but we say it's just fine the way it is. "Mine Raid" convinces with its strengh and thrill. Very daunting! So "Cannon Village" starts a bit the same just with the difference that there comes the fantastic thundering upbeat. Great rhythm! "Cliff's Last Stand" sounds a bit flagging from the start but towards the end it becomes much stronger and melodious. "Colt's Torment" is surely the track you expected from an old West game soundtrack. It's smooth and atmospheric. A little breather in between. "Colt's Training" is nearly the same but more harmonious. "Save The Alhambra" goads you very good. It puts over something powerful and praves the way for "River Rescue" which is definitely cinematic. "Ancient Ruins Kill" has a few good moments but there's all in all to much beat around the bush. The award for the most emotional epic track on this album goes to "Colt Travels". Simply a dream! Unfortunately "Bear Hunt" isn't as exciting as its name lets suggest. But this little letdown is easy compensated by "Storm Hideout". Unnecessarily "Empire" is just a nice packaged gap filler and not an epic or heroic track as it suggests.

"Law Approach", "Sneak Snipe", "Travel Dodge" and "Ned Teaches Wolf" are simply chill out tracks in western style but they all sound fantastic. "Follow Reed" peps up the atmosphere again. But why the hell is there "Sneak Town"? It's just an extremely unnecessary gap filler. In addition "Allied Battle" is a weak battle track. Thankfully there is "Cannons Calv". A fantastic composition with lots of switches. "Apache" is good ambient music and "Ambush" brings back the great emotional tunes with some heavy drums. "Hold Them Off" demonstrates again the beautiful melodious site of old western music. "Resistance" is good compostion which has unfortunately a weak follower called "Tribe Approaches". What a pity! Against it "Aftermath Sorrow" was a little surprise. It scores with lots of melancholy. The final "Showdown" is the biggest disappointment of the soundtrack. Absolutely wasted potential. But the "Credits" round up the soundtrack very satisfying.

Game Music Hall Score: 8,9

This soundtrack is defenitely something superior. The atmosphere of the wild West is perfectly captured and ther're some tracks which are really awesome. Especially the "Main Theme" is epic. Except for some mistakes with and in some tracks there's nothing else to criticize. So if you dig the old west you really have to listen to this score.
