Is this soundtrack a spectacle?

Although Far Cry's "Theme" starts up with less power but instead of with lots of emotion. The native sounds and voice create a beautiful atmosphere. "The Eyes Move Out" scores with its affection to strong rhythms. It shows how great violins and drums can work together. After this there comes the light track "You Carry What You Must". The track feels a bit psychedelic. A nice effect. But we don't understand why "Into the Illness" comes with this album. It's boring and repetitive. A bit of a yawn. So hopefully there will come a track which makes it better, right? Right! "Let It Burn" is hot. Finally again a strong track with good rhythms and tunes. Nonetheless it sounds sagging. "Unleashed" sounds more like it. And tracks like "Larium Dreams" are quite good additions, too. Surprisingly "Speak to the Dead" is amazingly soulful. It's has these smooth vibes and clear rhythms that you expect from a good score. Truly a pure enjoyment. Unfortunately "Dark River" can't convince as well. It needs too long till something happens and when something happens it isn't worth mentioning. Definitely a track just made for the game. On the other hand "Northern Warlord" is a fantastic composition. Again it's a track which scores with more soul than power. "First Morning" is one of these compositions which concentrate their power for a specific time and then they blow it out. In this case it's not a big bang but anyway it's nice to listen to it.

"Eighteen Bullets" is an acoustic, psychedelical touched track, with it's own charm. If you listen clear you can recognize some variety and swing. With "There Is Only War" comes a strong and depressive track, which is no more, no less. "Change Your Battles" starts incredible lame but gets very exciting after the half. After this little dropper a short composition called "The Edge of the Village" arrives. It's nothing special. More a gap filler. If you miss melodious tracks so far "Spirits" should calm you down. A nice track with a piece of soul in it. After that there comes "Rage Implosion". Fortunately a track which is the end of the long dry spell. Strong beats with a fast rhythm again. Absolutely goading! The annoying thing is "Ghost In the Drug" goes back to the more smooth tunes. But actuallly it's okay because it's a very short one. "The Fuse" is the most powerful track on the album. It sounds great but unfortunately it's very short. "Road from Africa" convince with it's mysterious undertone which becomes quite melancholic in the end. After this there comes a very medlodious track called "To Those Who Kill". It has it's own plaintive touch but this is the emotion this album needed. So can the ending "Sign of Relief" round off this score? Well, you have to listen to it because it's hard to describe. Definitely not a typical ending.

Game Music Hall Score: 7,7

This soundtrack is surely not everyone's matter of taste. There are nearly no power or soulful tracks and melodious compositions are rare, too. And you have to give lots of attention to the music to enjoy it very well. On the whole the African atmosphere is well captured. But the score is definitely made for the game itself than for listeners. It's not a bad soundtrack. It just seems that it's released for fan's sake. If you want to hear native, soulful, melodious and great composed music, you should better listen to Afrika's soundtrack.
