Full Version: Original Soundtrack Vs. Game Rip

Over the years, I've compared a large number of game OSTs and their alternate Game Rips. With almost every game, I usually sided with the Game Rip. The only three I never sided with the Game Rip on were the Halo game OSTs. Here's a list of advantages and disadvantages for each:

::OSTs::
:Pros:
-Usually higher quality
-Normally has a resale value wink.gif
:Cons:
-Normally fewer tracks composed of a mixture of sniplets from a select few few songs.
-The mixture of the the few tracks normally doesn't feature all of the games music.
-You normally don't get what you pay for IF you payed for it wink.gif

::Game Rips::
:Pros:
-Bigger track list
-Longer duration for your favorite tracks
-Most likely HAS your favorite tracks
:Cons:
-Occasionally not the best quality
-Sometimes has extraction flaws

I don't expect the poll to be based on your opinion on this little article, I'm just curious how many have a preference when the two are compared.

::Game Rips::
:Pros:
-Longer duration for your favorite tracks because they are usually looped by a ripper. I would like 1 track loop than 2 loops especially when they`re created artificially and don`t show original track as it is
:Cons:
-Usually without track names

I prefer... both of this laugh.gif
Gearboy15
Yeah I like both but I like game rips better because you can listen to tracks that are never in the osts smile.gif
Beatnutz
I prefer originals, but then I create audio - but if some ant to rip mine I'm honoured.

I'm surprised, there's a dead even 14/14 O_o

I say both for the fact that either gamerip or ost end up having more tracks than the other. For example:

1. Bujingai Gamerip you'll only be able to rip out the stage tracks, but the OST has the cutscene music as well.

2. Tekken 6 OST, you get 3 Discs of tekken 6 arcade, and BR, but the tekken 6 BR gamerip has a couple tracks that the OST doesn't.

Only thing I don't like about this, is when leechers go ahead and name someone's gamerip an OST. Makes me think they have reached a new level of retardation.

I prefer both, actually. That way you can get the full musical experience with whatever soundtrack you're listening to.

It depends. Some OSTs can sound better than a gamerip, plus you can find the artist and get the track info/album covers.
But, some soundtracks don't have all of the songs, so a gamerip is nice.

But, there's also Arrange soundtracks, which are awesome. tongue.gif

I think if done right, gamerips can have superb quality. I found a gamerip of the Paper Mario 2 soundtrack that sounds better than the actual game. The same is true of the Zelda: TP soundtrack I have. Most OSTs are only limited to one minute and do not always contain the best works. Plus, not all games have gamerips, only popular ones. Thus, in my opinion, gamerips > OSTs.

It depends on what game and whether the original soundtrack covers everything or not.
1. If the original soundtrack covers everything, I'd get it because of the quality.
2. If not, I'd make a choice to just rip it my self or look for one.
Usually, I'd get both if possible or just one of them if it's good enough.

Ah well
